Joyall is the title of the famous indie/pop singer/songwriter’s new studio album. Jenny Lewis.
The record, scheduled for release on June 9 as Lewis’ fifth solo effort to date, was officially unveiled Wednesday. Coupled with this news was the premiere of “Psychos”.
“I started writing some of these songs while touring pre-pandemic … and then put them aside when the world shut down, and in early 2021, from my home in Nashville, with a handful of members. Together we attended a week-long virtual composition workshop where the Great Artists Challenge, hosted by Beck, was to write one song per day for seven days, following Beck’s guidelines. Prompts like “Write a song with chord progressions”, “Write a song with only clichés”, or “Write free-form”. The first song submitted to the group was “Puppy and a Truck”. ”

Lewis shared “Puppy and Truck” for the first time in November 2022.
Details of the concept behind Joyall:
Joy’All draws from a wealth of sonic inspiration, from soul to ’90s R&B to country and classic singer-songwriter records, but the album’s rich, intimate and warm live sound earned him an 8 Grammy Award nomination. This is the hallmark of an award-winning producer. Dave Cobb (John Prine, Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell) is someone Jenny met by chance when visiting the band Lucius at his RCA Studio A in Nashville. A natural rapport developed between the two, and Jenny, who had collected the demos on her iPhone, texted Dave his message and asked him to produce the new album.
“Dave is a fast worker and we recorded the majority of the recording on the floor in a few weeks with his amazing house band (Nate Smith on guitars, Brian Allen and Cobb, me on acoustic guitar and vocals). Jess Wolff returned to the studio to provide background vocals for the album, while Greg Rice and Jon Brion added pedal steel, B-bender guitar and chamberlinn to LA respectively.”
