when Adam Scott was cast There was a bit of life-imitating art as Henry Pollard, a struggling actor and catering waiter in the 2008 Starz comedy Party Down. Up to that point in his career, Scott had appeared in countless shows (“Veronica Mars,” “ER,” “Six Feet Under,” “Party of Five,” etc.) and major movies (“The Aviator,” “Step Brothers”, “Knocked Up”), but had yet to reach mainstream success and recognition.
“I connected very directly with the characters in many ways,” Scott told Goldderby in an exclusive video interview to appear on the series. I think we had this connection to the predicament that the characters were in. It’s part of what bonded us so strongly to the show and to each other at the time: this show about this particular thing is what we It made me feel like… better about that particular thing, and it was really great, so funny, so much fun, and we didn’t want it to stop.”
Unfortunately they did. At least 13 years. But in this age of revivals and reboots, and after much speculation that ‘Party Down’ will bring back an all-star band, the stars have aligned and ‘Party Down’ will be returning to Starz for its long-awaited third season this year. I came back to Picked up in real time 13 years after viewers last saw the character, the new episode refocuses a party-down catering company struggling to find big opportunities for creatives on the fringes of Hollywood. I guessed.
“It’s all credit [co-creator, executive producer, and writer] John Enbom By making sure the show still feels like the same crappy little show,” Scott says of his approach to new episodes that don’t miss a single creative beat from the show’s previous season. I think the idea was to make it feel like Party Down was going on forever, just not watching the seasons in between, picking up “Party Down” season 13. I skipped all other seasons. So I felt like I put the needle back on the record. “
Much of the character has changed over the past decade, although the world of “Party Down” has remained largely the same, including the iconic pink bowtie that is part of the Party Down wardrobe. Actor Henry has been married and divorced and now teaches students at a local high school. his former lover, Casey (Lizzy Caplan) became a big hit as a performer on “Saturday Night Live”. and the Party Down team with his leader Ron Donald (Ken Marino) is, well, still trying to earn respect as a manager – he’s just a decade older. (“I think Ken is the funniest person in the world,” Scott says of Marino. “And Ron is my favorite character.”)
“As an actor, being around my parents always makes me feel like a kid. You’ll feel like an unemployed actor who won’t get arrested for whatever success you have,” said Scott Emmy for Apple TV+’s drama “Severance.” Having had an explosive career over the past decade, including being twice nominated for . “The feeling that I identify with Henry is easy to find. But the cool thing is that it’s been 13 years and there’s been a little while for the character too – under the bridge.” Blood is flowing – he’s changed a bit and looks at his life in a macro perspective. Some of the re-opens during the season, the character is the same guy, but there are differences in him. It was fun finding the original pathos of the characters, but it was like finding new colors.”
Discussions about a “Party Down” reboot or return have been pretty much ongoing since the show was first canceled in 2010. martin star, Megan Mullally, Jane Lynch and –Ryan Hansen -right meet again for the movie. When that didn’t happen, the show seemed to remain a cult favorite that ended too soon. credited a cast A reunion at the 2019 Vulture Festival that rekindled the possibility of a comeback. By January 2021, Scott, Enbom, and fellow executive producers Rob Thomas, Paul Rudd and and Eatherridge We had Zoom meetings every week about new episodes. Despite the script, Scott says there wasn’t even a guarantee the show would actually happen.
“There was the COVID scare and everything was pretty much scrapped. About that time, he explains. So, he says, it was “a huge relief” when it became clear that the show would continue.
“But when I walked on set, I realized that I hadn’t given much thought to how this was going to feel because I was so busy getting ready,” adds Scott. I was a little underwhelmed when there was a scene with Ken Marino in front of the Party Down van when I walked in. It was very moving, but also just weird.Zero hours passed. But our lives were all different back then.I had two babies and now I have two teenagers. It’s a whole different world.”
Scheduling issues prevented Kaplan from participating in the Season 3 episode. But her character Casey makes a surprise appearance in the final moments of the season finale. This indicates that her relationship with Henry will continue even if future episodes may exist.
“We certainly want to keep it hanging,” Scott says of the season 3 conclusion.Starz has yet to announce that “Party Down” will return for season 4, but Scott is optimistic.
“It ended up being an engineering feat, so I hope we can find another six weeks that everyone can take advantage of,” he says. “But I think we can do it. I want to do it too, and I know everyone wants to do it.”
“Party Down” is streaming on Starz.
