Paducah — The death of Callaway County Chief of Staff Jodie Cash follows a lawsuit filed May 10 in Marshall County Circuit Court by Cash’s widow, Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy Donald Bowman, and his wife. details continue to emerge.
Lieutenant Bowman was at the scene when Cash was murdered. He is also the police officer who killed Gary Rowland. His role in the lawsuit surrounding Cash’s death cited post-traumatic stress disorder, which he said could have been prevented.
Bowman spoke of his fears when he was questioned by investigators after Rowland’s death.
“I was in danger for my life and he killed my partner and he was on his way to the restaurant right behind the sheriff’s office – maybe not in the back. But if you look at the sheriff’s office to your right, there’s a place there called ‘Four Pigs, it’s a restaurant. I don’t know what he’s going to do at that point.”
In an interview obtained through Local 6’s Briana Clarke’s public records request, Bowman also described Rowland’s first smoking break.
“He bends down to clear the smoke and looks back at it, he spends a lot of time bending over to clear the smoke and I’m looking back at it now, I think he moves I think he was.” As far as getting a pistol, as far as he can get it. “
In addition to this, a WPSD public records request revealed what Gary Rowland was wearing during the shooting.
According to the documents, Rowland was wearing two T-shirts, a sweatshirt and sweatpants.
A toxicology report revealed Rowland tested positive for benzoylecgonine, also known as methamphetamine, cannabis and cocaine.
An autopsy confirmed that Rowland had been shot at least 12 times and had injuries to his arms, legs, ears and the right side of his skull.
