In an interview with Armilk, Dayboy Way details how the collaboration with Represent Fox came to fruition and his acting dreams as he prepares to star in Paramount Pictures. heroeshis artistry as a member of Titanium and as a solo artist.
What is the message contained in “BAKA” and the production process?
“Baka” in Japanese means madness, so it’s good to relax and act crazy once in a while. This is a Japanese-Thai collaboration and the title fits perfectly with Repezen Foxx.
The song represents a cultural collaboration between Japan and Thailand. How did your collaboration with Represent Fox come about, and what do you think the experience taught you about Japanese artistry?
I met DJ Ginta, one of the members of Repezen Foxx, who told me he was a fan of my single “Cake Diet” and loved Thailand. During our conversation, he also said that if he had the opportunity to collaborate, he would be depressed. I love his energy and started doing my homework on Repezen Foxx. I was blown away by their visuals and direction. So when I heard the music for BAKA from producer Ricky Luna, I knew right away that this would be perfect for them.
How would you describe your current sound as you embark on a solo career, and how would you like it to evolve?
I am currently working on a project titled “The Way Verse”. Musically you get different versions of DABOYWAY.
As a member of Titanium, what influences have you inherited from the group, and what parts of your artistry do you feel are unique to you?
Titanium has worked independently for most of their career, so I’m very hands-on in everything I do, even when dealing with a solo career. We are also pioneers in mixing Thai and English in music. Part of my artistry is that I’m probably responsible for ruining the Thai language.
What is the most rewarding part of the music-making process for you personally, and what is the most challenging part?
The most rewarding process is waking up every morning with an opportunity to create. The whole process of actually going into the studio, writing, creating, turning an idea into a song, and turning it into a visual is very rewarding for me.
There will of course be challenges along the way in the creative process, but it’s best to take one step at a time. I try not to think too long about the problem.
As someone who has successfully spread the influence of their craft to Southeast Asia and other countries, how do you feel the world’s perception of Thai music/musicians has changed? do you think?
I feel that there is a growing interest in and attention to Thai music and musicians. It feels like the underground music scene, especially hip-hop, is really booming and ready to explode for the world’s attention.
Who are your role models on a professional and personal level?
my mom and jay z
Are there any artists you would like to collaborate with in the future? Also, similar to BAKA, are there any cultural influences from around the world that you would like to incorporate into your music?
I want to work with people who share the same energy as me. I want it to happen organically, like it did with BAKA.
Besides music, you’re going to star in heroes. Do you have any specific dreams or goals for your career as an actor?
Acting has always been my passion and I am open to any opportunity. My goal is to become a stable actor someday.
Are there aspects of your creative field that you haven’t tried yet that you’d like to try?
I would love to do a Broadway show.
For those who are hearing your music for the first time, how would you describe DABOYWAY’s music in 3 words?
