It was shocking to see Dungeons & Dragons: Thief’s Honor How much did you like the movie? Not because I thought I didn’t like it.But it went on with my life more than I thought it was one of the movies I laughed and enjoyed. Dungeons & Dragons, I like it more and more. And that’s entirely down to the characters and how they’re brought to life throughout the story.
Edgin Darvis (Chris Pine) is trying to put together a team to bring back his daughter Kira (Chloe Coleman). Part of that team is his best friend Holga (Michelle Rodriguez). Holga met him when he was at rock bottom and tried to help him raise Kira (whom she calls Bugs). Their dynamic as friends is the true heart of the film.
And I fell in love with Holga’s character. Because she’s strong, feminine, and willing to show (and sing) her vulnerabilities with her friends. That her love all hinges on Rodriguez’s performance in the film. And talking to her about Holga was a lot of fun because you can tell she really loves this character and this movie.
For Rodriguez, Holga’s strength is something she’s come and gone in her career. “Look, it’s crazy. I’ve always felt like a lot of the work I’ve done has been like an extremely masculinized version of femininity,” Rodriguez said. Because action movies were the only place I was free from being a girlfriend or a girl crying about everything man and man.”
She went on to talk about how she found her place in action movies. “The only way to escape it was to make an action movie. And it took me a while to figure out where the femininity was. I don’t think it’s the essence of
strength beauty
Rodriguez opened up about how she came to understand the “soft power” in both herself and her acting masculine and feminine. She also said that the heart of the film is tied to Chloe Coleman’s Kira.
“Of course, we are born both male and female, and whether we are male or female, we all have fatherly qualities and motherly qualities within us,” Rodriguez said.
