I often find myself trying to switch music providers. Whether it’s because you know there’s a feature you really want, or because you want to take advantage of a promotional offer.
The only problem is that no one spends time recreating all their curated and saved playlists, but luckily you can just use the app to transfer them and take them with you.

Get SongShift and link your account
- Download Songshift for iPhone
- open the app
- Select your source (in this case: Apple Music and Spotify)
- Sign in to Apple Music and Spotify to link your music
- Allow Access to Libraries as Needed
The easiest way to transfer is with an app called SongShift. It’s available for free from the iPhone App Store, so be sure to download it. There are similar apps on the Android Play Store, an example being “FreeYourmusic”. SongShift is free, but because there is a limit to how much you can transfer for free, we also offer a “pro” subscription that’s paid monthly, yearly, or pays a one-time upfront fee and is forever covered.
The first step after downloading SongShift is to open the app and set up your music service. We support a variety of services such as Tidal, YouTube Music, Pandora, and more. For this tutorial, choose Apple Music and Spotify. In each case, you need to grant certain permissions and sign in to your account.
Transfer playlist
- Tap. “+” To start a new transfer
- select Apple Music playlist as your source
- Switch to the next screen “Multiple Playlists” upon
- Select all playlists you want to transfer
- strike ‘end’
- select spotify and ‘New Playlist’ as your destination
- strike ‘Continue’
- Tap ‘it’s over’
- Wait for processing to complete and check for matches
Once you’ve linked your sources, tap the “+” icon at the top to start a new shift and select your sources. For this guide, that’s Apple Music. Tap Playlists to run one at a time or switch on multiple playlists.
The next step is to select the playlists to transfer. It’s worth noting that Apple Music showed some songs as 0 songs, but when I selected them to transfer, all songs were detected, matched and processed.
Depending on how many playlists you have, it may take a while to match and generate a new playlist, but once the matching is complete, you will often notice that some songs are missing and can be ignored. You can also Match manually instead or try and find out. Otherwise the service works very well.
The only playlist we found to fail was one of the largest playlists with nearly 1,000 songs. I almost gave up after about 500 songs.
Of course, if you want to move music from Spotify to Apple in another way, it is possible. Same process, but select Spotify as the source and Apple as the destination.
