(CNN) Arizona House Representative Liz Harris was expelled from the Arizona House of Representatives on Wednesday for ethics violations by inviting a conspiracy theorist to testify publicly before lawmakers earlier this year.
A resolution to expel the first-term Republican elected in November said she brought “disgrace and embarrassment to the House” and “disorderly behavior.” Her 46 Arizona lawmakers in the Republican-dominated House voted to remove her from her elected position, reaching her two-thirds threshold to expel her deputies Did. Harris is a well-known conspiracy theorist and election opponent in Arizona. She was a constant figure during the Republican-led review for her 2020 ballot in Maricopa County. Election experts denounced her review as an attempt to overturn the state’s election results.
Arizona House Democrats released a statement supporting the expulsion, saying “misinformation, lies and conspiracies are not harmless and are not just politics.” They noted that the lies presented in Breger’s television testimony were picked up by partisan media and social media influencers.
“The integrity of our agency was compromised in that moment, and the damage continues to accumulate, for which accountability is required,” House Democrats said in a statement.
