Global music sensations The Scooches have released a pivotal new single titled ‘Stop This Climate Change’. It’s a poetic, uplifting call to action filled with images of cataclysm, but imbued with a desire for change.
Appearing just in time for Earth Day, the lyrics “We’ve got to stop this Climate and change” refer to the climate of helplessness and denial surrounding climate change. Vocalist Bettina Hershey wrote songs not only about relationships between humans, but also about our relationship with Mother Earth.
Featuring majestic co-lead vocals from the talented Miles Griffiths and spiritually heightened musicianship from multi-instrumentalist Nick Russo, the tour is a hypnotic experience from Brooklyn rapper Ra$h Ca$h. It concludes with a thought-provoking spoken word as a manipulative Indian. Driven by Aditya Phatak (tabla), Mamadou Ba (bass) and Harvey Wirht (drums), the inspired outro brings power to the promised land. Uplifting vocals, harmonies, rhythms, instruments and a visceral message combine in a bold, jubilant declaration of unity. Climate change is irreversible. Together, we can make a difference.
“Our goal with this song is to inspire people to roll up their sleeves and take action. The purple hands on our album cover symbolize the magic that comes with hard work! We can’t deny the impact. Let’s truly believe that together we can create positive change,” says Hershey.
A portion of proceeds from singles available on all major streaming platforms including Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple, Amazon and Pandora, America’s most enduring and influential grassroots environmental group It will be donated to the Sierra Club. Scootches elevates voices, instruments and awareness with an eclectic melting pot of original music inspired by global folk traditions, global Americana, New Orleans and the 1920s. Highlights include the title track’s reggae dub groove, the playful country breakup song “I Broke The Egg,” the 1920s-inspired “What’s Meant To Last Will Last,” and the smoky Motown-esque duet “Give It To” is included. The ever-timely traditional protest song “Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Round” (sung by Joan Baez recently at the Newark Airport with Justin Jones of the Tennessee Three) comes in two versions, both of which are striking. The first is an uplifting celebration and the second is the Gala Geechee version featuring evocative contributions from Miles Griffiths and percussionist/vocalist Dr. David Pleasant on improvised vocals.
Over the years, the Scootches have performed at the Kansas City Folk Festival, Club Pasym, Blue Plate Specials, WFUV, John Pratt’s “On Your Radar”, and the syndicated old radio show Woodsongs, with various members performing. He has also worked with artists such as Paul McCartney. , Paul Simon, Willie Nelson, James Taylor, Jerry Garcia, Julia Roberts, Wynton Marsalis. Russo and Hershey have appeared in films such as Disney’s Enchanted, Mona Lisa Smile, Away We Go, and PBS Masterpiece’s The Chaperone.
A tour from summer to autumn will be announced soon. In the meantime, the band will be celebrating with friends, fans and family on Friday June 2nd at a very special hometown show at Greenwich Village’s Zink Bar.
