season 23 The Voice recently completed a blind audition round. That meant coaches and viewers met another cast with a wealth of talent, including JB Somers and Cait Martin. After the first round of the season, coaches his panel consisting of Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Chance the Rapper, and Niall Horan completed the formation of the team. JB Somers spoke Glitter About the reason I received the audition voice, His experience and advice for aspiring competitors.
BRITTANY: Thank you so much for joining us, JB. how are you today?
JB: Brittany, thank you so much for having me on board. I am having a great day so far.
BRITTANY: That’s great. Hope it continues to be great. Let’s go back to the beginning.How the audition started The Voice?
JB: You know, I’ve been watching the show for years since it first started. And going back to season one, I remember falling in love with the concept of the show. I never imagined this would happen for millions of years, but it was always in my mind.So being part of it was a dream come true The Voice.
Brittany: Of course. I think it was always an interesting concept when it first came to light. Really looking at the whole business and who it is, it’s like, ‘Oh my God, that’s you. Match face and voice. Congratulations on passing the blind audition. Let’s talk about that for a minute. Take me back to that moment when I’m getting ready to go out. what’s crossing your mind?
JB: Do not vomit. have a good time. No, I’m kidding. So many emotions running through my head. The adrenaline will be released at full force. And I think the main idea I had was that I wanted my family and my sister, and my hometown, to be proud.
Brittany: And when you’re there you’re giving us a great cover of Joni Mitchell’s Case of You Tell me, at that moment some of the chairs turn I’m watching you do, and you’re singing, you’ve got lights and cameras. what is going through your body?
JB: Well, I was so nervous that I often closed my eyes. So when I opened her eyes, I remember seeing Kelly change her chair for me. And soon Chance the Rapper took my place.
Brittany: Of course. i can only imagine. In a way, did you feel like this out-of-body experience? I can’t believe I’m here.
JB: yes. Many of my cast members and I recall moments when we probably went black and felt like we couldn’t remember what really happened until we finished the song. Like I said, it was an adrenaline-pumping moment that put me on autopilot.
BRITTANY: Like you said, both Kelly Clarkson and Chance the Rapper have turned chairs for you. Was it difficult for you to decide between the two because you were standing there and you had to make two decisions?
JB: yes. Oh my God It was one of the toughest decisions he ever made in his life. And it looks so funny. Options, for me, was just thanking someone for turning a chair for me, and it was a really humbling experience. It was very difficult to make that decision as both could fight over me and me. There was a turn for Chance, and Chance bet money on Kelly as to what he was offering to coach me. In other words, I think I went by instinct, and I am grateful to be on Team Kelly.
Brittany: absolutely.And, as you know, before joining The Voice, Kelly Clarkson is a megastar, right? yes. Perhaps her career, what was it about her specifically? What knowledge made you want to go with her?
JB: Well, I mean, she’s the winner of her first singing competition, so she’s the one who knows the most about how all this works. I know that I wanted to collect some information from her. For lack of words, sit at her feet and absorb her wisdom.
Brittany: M.As we move forward for the next few rounds, are there any strategies or surprises to expect?
JB: I’m just gonna be me I’m gonna do me I want to be as real JB as possible. It’s about my expression and artistry and the choices I make about songs. And yeah, I’m going to give it my all.
BRITTANY: Authenticity is key. How has the reaction been from viewers?
JB: Insane. I was watching an episode with a friend on a Monday night and I remember having my watch on at one point. And at one point I looked down and there were only 300+ text messages. At different points in my life, it’s been wonderful to see people in my life reach out and say how proud they are of me. , I shared how I was moved by my sister’s story, or how my performance affected me in some way. But it’s the same.
Brittany: W.How was your family’s reaction?
JB: It was really good. I was actually chatting with his brother this morning and he hadn’t heard from him, so he said, “Hey, really? Did you have a chance to check on me?” It was too late and I didn’t want to bother you. ” He was very proud. His father texted me the next morning thank you for making us proud. And my mother was equally proud. she was so wonderful.
Brittany: T.The hat is so sweet. You know, it’s still a little early in the season, but what have you learned about yourself through this process so far?
JB: Really good question. Have you learned anything new about yourself? I. I don’t know, I. That’s a really hard question. I don’t even know what to say I think I’ve learned to surprise myself a little. I know I’m a talented person, and I’ve worked hard to cultivate this gift that I’ve been given. Again, like I said, I blacked out and felt a bit taken aback because I don’t quite remember what happened during the song. For some, I was really happy with my performance.I am grateful to have memorabilia from the show.
Brittany: T.the hat is great. I know it’s kind of the part of your life that you always have. But do you have any advice for people who are a little hesitant about auditioning? The Voice?
JB: Oh my God in short. I just dive in and say go for the worst. One of his old friends says I’ve always lived by this kind of mantra, but when you’re jumping in and wanting something or moving forward, the worst thing anyone can do is The thing is to say no. Whether it’s some kind of competition or whatever it is in your life, the worst thing people can do is say no in that situation.
