When it’s hard, it’s hard to see the big picture. That’s exactly how Fenne Lilly felt while writing her latest album. She was grappling with the isolation and existential crisis that so many people were experiencing in 2020. big picture exemplify it. “Writing this album was my attempt to bring some order to the disaster of 2020,” she said in a statement. As something still worth listening to.
Where is your favorite city in the world?
Berlin is a close second, regardless of where I live.
Who has influenced your work the most and why?
I wanted to write music because of my piano teacher, Rob.
Where did you have the best meal of your life?
I don’t usually remember the food, but I do remember Forever Thai in Flushing, Brooklyn. Fresh spring rolls like never before.

really none.
What’s the best concert you’ve ever attended?
Nick Cave of Primavera.
What is the best outfit for a performance and why?
It looks great in any position and covers the knees but not the buttocks.

What song did you play most often in the van on tour?
Some tours had to distribute Bodega’s “Jack in Titanic”.

Bieber blowing kisses, all misspelled.

If you don’t like it and your partner doesn’t like it, your relationship will change.
Where’s the strangest place you crashed while on tour?
I slept in Metallica’s guitar tech living room surrounded by Metallica guitars.
What’s the story behind your first or favorite tattoo?
I have a drawing I made during my stay in Berlin under my elbow. I went to do it with a woman I met at the show. It was her boyfriend’s show and they had a little one and we played together for a few days and then got a tattoo and she hasn’t seen her since. I like friends like that.
Which artist keeps you from changing radio channels?
My current favorite bands are Friendship, MJ Lenderman and Anna Tivel.
What’s the nicest thing someone has done for you?
it’s big Every time my mother doesn’t say I’m a dick when I’m a dick, every time my father picks me up from the airport when I can catch the bus.
Give your 18-year-old self one piece of retroactive advice.
Seek help before crying.
What was the last show you went to?
Brooklyn Workwives and Why Bonnie. Both bands are supporting Christian Lee Hutson and myself on their spring tours around North America. Very good band, very good people.
What movie can’t you not watch when it’s on TV?

What are your hidden talents?
I do not hide my talent.
