FAU guard Jonel Davis carved his name into the NCAA Tournament record books on Sunday night.
Davis became the first player to score at least 25 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and steal five bases in a Men’s NCAA Tournament game, leading the Owls to a victory over Fairleigh Dickinson and making the first Suite 16 appearance in program history.
He totaled 29 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals and shot 10-of-16 from the field. His 29 points for Davis was his second-highest total in his career.

After the match, Davis kept it real.
“I’m just trying to provide for my family,” he told sideline reporter Jamie Ardahl.
Davis grew up in Gary, Indiana. The city was ranked by Business Insider as her 2019 “most miserable” city in America.
Junior has only started 15 of his 90 games with the FAU and has emerged as a scoring weapon off the bench in the Owls’ dream season before becoming a starter in late February. Now he’s found himself one of the hearts of the team heading into the Sweet 16 for the first time.
Davis caught himself in a hilarious moment early in the interview when he apologized for his not-work-safe words.
“I’ve been trying to prove this — since day one — oh.”
“It happens to all of us. We’re on truTV,” Erdahl told Davis.
Regardless of the words he uses to describe it, Davis’ underdog mentality is palpable – and it seems to take the FAU to new heights.
The Owls went 33-3 heading into the Sweet 16 matchup against Tennessee on a nine-game winning streak. A tough volunteer defense awaits them at Madison Square Garden.
