It’s a boy!
San Jose Sharks captain Logan Couture announced in an exit interview today that he and fiancée Brielle Essien are expecting their first child in late July.
Couture has once again confirmed his desire to turn things around with the San Jose Sharks and is realistic about potentially losing Eric Carlson.
These are the highlights from Couture’s exit interview. Check out the full interview here.
Logan Couture, this year has been uphill for the San Jose Sharks from the start:
yeah let’s start [0-5-0] It was hard. I mean, you’re or are about to get out of the hole and we’re in Prague on a trip and then on the East Coast. It sounds like I’m making excuses, but I’m not trying to make excuses. It’s been a difficult journey at the start of the year and I’ve fallen a little behind the 8-ball and just couldn’t find a way to win. It was hard to start like we did.
As for whether Couture is optimistic that the Sharks will be better competitive next year:
you know i never met [Grier] not yet. So I’m going to meet him here for a bit.
I think Griersy is a very respected person who if you speak up or speak out, everyone listens. I think everyone in this locker room has a lot of respect for Mike Greer.
so let’s see what he does [say] And his plan is moving forward, but we want to win. I come to this rink every day and wake up to win a hockey game. That part is tough. If you wake up and come here and lose, it won’t be easy.
Couture, on whether he is now more open to the idea of trading so he can win again:
i love san jose conscripted here. this is my house So let’s see what happens. I mean, I’m going to meet him here for a minute, but I want to stay here. I want to be a shark and I want to turn this situation around.I control my contract — I control some or most [of the] Control with my contract to figure out where I’m going. Nothing makes me happier than getting this team back into the playoffs.
On whether Couture is excited to meet the young players and bring them under his umbrella:
surely. I love meeting new players and seeing everyone’s skills. So, we traded players this year. I was jacked up to see what they brought to the team. i am still trying to learn. I’m trying to take something away from someone. Because they’re from different organizations and they probably have something that’s way better than us or me.See how they look at games [of] hockey. You excited.
On whether Couture was asked to represent Canada at the World Championships:
Hooray. I’m not going I am having a baby this summer. So stick around. [The day is supposed to be] July 27th. busy. [It’s a] boy.
Couture on what would happen if the San Jose Sharks traded Eric Carlson:
It must have been difficult. I thought he was amazing this year. as a player. as a person. Any guy in this locker room would say he’s the best. So it will be difficult, but I understand. I mean, Eric was a veteran guy, he wanted to win, he wants to win now, and it was tough on him. I miss him. He’s a great guy, a great player, incredible.
In my opinion, no one can replace Eric Carlson. There is very little you can do from the backend.I mean, he’s there, obviously in my opinion, he’s with Connor [McDavid] Such a person can quickly change the game. Yes, it will be difficult.
