The Detroit rapper and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer currently has seven songs with over one billion plays on digital music services.
Eminem rejoined Spotify’s Billions Club with the help of 100 Year Old Lullaby and TikTok.
The Detroit rapper’s “Mockingbird” is his latest single to hit one billion plays on the streaming service, a milestone passed Thursday. This is his 7th song for Eminem to push the limits of digital.
The 2004 mid-tempo track from Eminem’s fifth studio album, Encore, is built around a nursery rhyme loop of “Hush, Little Baby,” featuring Em’s performances with his daughter Hailey Jade and niece I know you’re talking to Alaina.
The song has exploded in popularity over the past six months thanks to its viral trend on TikTok. Videos tagged with #mockingbird have earned his 1.5 billion views, and videos tagged with #mockingbirdeminem have had another 380 million views, according to the social network.
“Mockingbird” follows “Godzilla,” which surpassed 1 billion views in October, “The Real Slim Shady,” which recorded 1B in 2022, and “Love the Way You Lie.” M’s “Lose Yourself”, “Till I Collapse” and “Without Me” were previously in Billions Club. Currently, his top song on the service is “Lose Yourself,” with 1.6 billion streams.
If it weren’t for the new TikTok trend, Eminem’s “Rap God” would likely be the next hit single to reach 1 billion streams, with less than 70 million views before hitting the marker. Em has three of his songs, “Stan,” “The Monster,” and “Not Afraid,” each with over his 800 million plays.
According to Spotify, “Mockingbird” is the 372nd song to get more than 1 billion streams on the service. Other songs that have recently joined the Billions Club include REM’s ‘Losing My Religion’, Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ and Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’.
Eminem is the 12th most listened artist in the world on Spotify, one place behind Drake. The Weeknd is No. 1, followed by Miley Cyrus (No. 2), Shakira (No. 3), Taylor Swift (No. 4) and Rihanna (No. 5). Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, David Guetta and SZA made the top ten.
