(CNN) A large vessel at dry dock in the Scottish capital Edinburgh on Wednesday was pulled from its hold and partially overturned, injuring 25 people, emergency services said.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service told CNN that 15 patients had been taken to local hospitals, while a further 10 were treated and discharged at the scene of the accident at Imperial Docks in Leith, a neighborhood north of Edinburgh. .
Edinburgh Police Department said police and other emergency services were at the scene of the incident, which occurred just before 8:30 am local time.
Images from the scene show that the capsized vessel is the research vessel Petrel.
The 76-meter (251-foot) ship was funded by the late Microsoft founder Paul Allen and became famous in recent years after many long-lost wrecks were discovered. That discovery includes her two US aircraft carriers, USS Hornet and her USS Lexington, which were sunk by Japanese forces during World War II.
However, petrels have been in long-term moorings since 2020, first in Florida and then in Scotland.
Deidre Block, who represents Edinburgh North and Leith in the UK Parliament, said on Twitter that “strong winds” had pushed the ship aside.
According to observations by the Japan Meteorological Agency, the area was hit by strong winds around the time of the incident.
