Ed Sheeran may have just released his sixth pop album, subtractionbut this does not prevent the singer from turning to the next musical genre.
On Wednesday, the musician told Billboard that he wants to enter the country music era.
“I talk to my wife about this all the time. I want to move to the countryside,” he told the publication. “I love the culture and I love the songwriting. It’s like a great song.”
So it’s only fitting that Sheeran will perform at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Thursday night. In fact, it was at The Star’s Ford Center in Frisco, Texas, where Sheeran told Billboard about her newfound musical aspirations, the venue of her awards ceremony.
Sheeran’s move to country wouldn’t be so far-fetched. He is best friends with Taylor Swift, who has gone from country to pop to folk to country (again).
In fact, it was Swift who first introduced Sheeran to the world of country music. “I haven’t listened to much country music since I was a kid. It was just Taylor’s.” red Touring and living in Nashville, and basically she introduced me to that side of things,” Sheeran told Billboard.
In case you forgot, Sheeran opened with Swift’s match red A tour in 2014 after the release of the debut album in 2011, plus.
Sheeran’s interest in moving to the countryside seems to have something to do with his love for the city of Nashville. Billboard reported that the singer has lived here twice in her life, in 2013 and 2018.
“There really isn’t a place in Europe where you can point your finger and say, ‘This is the home of songwriting,'” he told the magazine. “It’s not just country music. Nashville is home to great songwriters and great performers. And just being with everyone has been really inspiring.”
