Detroit – A man is in custody after allegedly shooting three people and killing one in downtown Detroit early Saturday morning, police say.
Officers on Randolph and Monroe streets downtown heard gunshots coming from a nearby parking lot around 12:00 a.m. Saturday, according to the Detroit Police Department. They saw people fleeing the area and responded quickly.
Responding officers saw a man armed with a handgun run into the parking lot.
When they tracked him down, he pointed his gun at the chief officer as he attempted to escape in a black Mazda driven by someone else.
The chief officer fired a shot at the man and hit him.
Mazda drove away from the scene, but the injured man was later found at a local hospital and taken into custody.
A man in custody is believed to have shot three people and killed one, according to Detroit police.
The Michigan State Police Homicide Squad is investigating and has not provided any information regarding the condition of the individual shot or the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
