Barrymore said on Friday’s episode of her talk show that Grant was a “good person.”
Drew Barrymore sticks with actor Hugh Grant amid backlash for Academy Awards 2023 interview with model Ashley Graham.
Grant, 62, was interviewed by Graham on the Oscars red carpet. Many viewers noticed that Graham seemed to give her a short answer back and then rolled her eyes after it was over.
When Graham asked the “Glass Onion: Knives Out Mystery” actor what he was wearing, he simply replied, “My suit.”
His awkward interview sparked criticism among many, including Piers Morgan.
But Barrymore, 48, had some insights to share in defense of Grant on Friday’s episode of her talk show. “The Drew Barrymore Show”
“If you know Hugh, I swear that’s his way of loving you,” Barrymore said during the episode. “I swear it’s okay, it’s funny too, because this thing is happening with him and Ashley Graham on the red carpet, people are like, he’s so rowdy and she’s so thrown. It’s something.”
The talk show host said, “No, it’s Hugh Grant. I’m in love with Hugh, and I want to tell you when he says that, he’s saying something absolutely funny.
She added that the actor Graham met on the red carpet was the “real” Hugh, calling him a “cheerful and good person.”
The Post has reached out to reps for both Barrymore and Grant for comment.
Her reaction came when first asked about his comments about what she sang in a movie called “Music and Lyrics” that they starred in together in 2007.
“Drew Barrymore was in that movie with me and I don’t think she would mind if I said her singing was just awful. I’ve heard dogs bark better than sing.” There is,” Grant said of his former co-star in an interview with Wired this week.
Barrymore also took to her Instagram page to share a funny comeback to Grant’s comments about her song.
In the video she posted, Barrymore sang the song from the movie into her hairbrush and wrote, “#SingForHughGrant JOIN ME” in the caption.
Since appearing at the 2023 Academy Awards, Grant has not spoken publicly about meeting Graham.
He appeared on “The View” just a few days later, but wasn’t asked about the red carpet where the talk show host was slammed on social media.
However, Graham had something to say when questioned by TMZ.
“Look, Mom kindly told you to kill people, so it’s okay,” said the model.
