Online streaming platform Spotify says Davido’s songs are the most streamed in the UK, Nigeria, Canada and France.
Victor Okpala, Spotify’s West African artist and label partnerships manager, said in a statement Tuesday that Davido’s songs have been featured in over 10 million user-created playlists on Spotify.
According to him, Davido’s fan appeal is unquestionable, as the Afrobeat star makes music that captures the elusive, exhilarating energy and fans around the world have connected since his first release.
“According to Spotify data, Davido is one of Afrobeat’s biggest exports.
“While undoubtedly beloved at home, the United States is the single largest market for Omo Baba Olowo (OBO)’s music, with the majority of his performances coming from outside Africa.
“The UK, Nigeria, Canada and France round out the top four countries where his music is streamed.
“David is one of Afrobeat’s truly global stars and I am honored to play a role in sharing his art and spirit with his loyal fans in Nigeria and around the world.
Spotify also promoted David’s “Timeless” album on a billboard in New York’s Times Square, unveiling the album to a global audience in one of the world’s most iconic public spaces, Okpala said.
