Whenever Colton Dixon gets the chance to release music, it’s exciting.
For “Canvas,” we waited over a year to release the track to the world.
“I’m just thrilled,” he says of the new music. “They’re finally out there. I’ve been listening to them mix song after song and they’re ready to listen.”
Dixon is currently on a “build-a-boat” tour scheduled to stop in Santa Fe on Thursday, May 11 at 7 p.m. at Mission Viejo’s The Light.
Dixon brings in Jordan St. Cyr and Apollo Limited as the tour’s openers. His EP ‘Canvas’ was released on April 28th.
The musician rose to fame as a contestant on the 11th season of ‘American Idol’. Since then, he has amassed over 100 million global streams and Hot His Adult has become a staple of his contemporary charts.
Dixon is also blessed with the success of the single “Build a Boat”. The song was her #1 for longest-running Christian Her Adult Contemporary Song in 2022. The song held her number one for ten weeks.
“I really appreciate how this song touched people’s hearts,” says Dixon. “He started writing ‘Build a Boat’ in 2021 while he was at Winter Jam. It’s been over a year since it all started.”
Dixon has been touring since March and is finding a groove on the tour in support of “Canvas.”
The EP’s journey wasn’t clear when Dixon began the process.
“It wasn’t until the final stages of the song that the direction became clear,” he says. “The song ‘Canvas’ came really late in the process while I was hanging out with some mates in Nashville. There was a piano, we got together and the song flowed out of us. We give our gifts and our whole life.When this song hit the playing field, we knew exactly what this record needed.”
Dixon remains humble about the music’s steady growth. He believes that he is on a path where he can make a difference, thanks to his fans that keep him engaged.
He has navigated through all its ups and downs and remains positive.
“In the early days of music, I fell in love with performing,” he says. “Now that I’m grown up, I love people again. I know that live performances are a vessel for getting these songs into people’s hands. can be seen and it is simply beautiful.
