Screen Rant: Keegan, you’re singing more this season! How did that happen? Is that what you lobbied for?
Keegan-Michael Key: I think they lobbied. Shmigadon! unconsciously.in the meantime Shmigadon!, the hardest part of being on that project was that I couldn’t sing, dance, or bop along to the music the way I wanted. That’s the way Keegan, a musical lover, would have wanted it. I was just standing there and the director was always saying, “Keegan, stop moving. Stop moving. Remember, you hate, hate, hate.” I think Cinco Paul must have noticed it.
Cecily, I saw you singing “My Way” again. SNL, This is unbelievable. Clearly, you have a knack for these eye-popping moments, and you’re getting more of it this season.
Cecily Strong: Wow. Well, first of all, thank you for saying that I have a flair for dazzling moments. It’s great to have someone like Shinko write them for you and know your strengths. [It] It’s a very safe, fun and supportive environment where you feel less likely to go badly wrong. I love it.
I may have just mentioned this, but did the fact that the character wanted to return to Shmigadoon this time made this a little more fun?
Keegan-Michael Key: Yeah, that’s a great way to put it.You find them trying, or indeed Josh [is] Try to soak up the atmosphere. He actually consciously tries to become part of the atmosphere. The two are clearly immersed in live performances. When you’re working on a show, does it bug you to do or want to do this sort of thing in front of a live audience?
Keegan-Michael Key: I mean, I want to.Can you imagine doing any of these seasons before live [audience]? That would be something else. That is wonderful.You Can Shmigadon! Musical: Musical.
Cecily Strong: Well, Shmigadon! N.othersmusical?
Keegan-Michael Key: That’s right.no non-musical Shmigadon! “Shmigadon! The Musical” “Oh, really? Shmigadon! ” [Laughs] I think it would be spectacular to do this live in any way, in any way.
Finally, since it seems like a trend to jump through the ages and go to these different shows over the decades, where do you both want the show to go next? Do you have a favorite musical?
Keegan-Michael Key: If we did season 3, I think there’s a logical progression, right? This is another great era.we talked [that] if we have to do something Into the Woodsthat would be great.
