The Milwaukee Bucks have been cleared to interview Phoenix Suns associate head coach Kevin Young. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Young, 41, has been Monty Williams’ chief assistant for the past two seasons and joined the Suns the year before, joining a handful of recent opening squads. Wojnarowski previously reported that Young was a candidate for the Toronto Raptors and the Suns themselves, who waived Williams on Saturday.
Young’s connection to Phoenix originally dates back to Williams and his Philadelphia 76ers days. Young was an assistant there from 2017 to 2020 until Williams brought him in as an assistant. After Willie Green was hired as the New Orleans Pelicans’ new head coach, Williams needed a new top assistant, and it was Young.
Young has been a basketball coach since his early twenties. He led the Irish professional team for two years before joining college-level teams at Utah Valley State University and the University of Oxford. His transition to the NBA came in 2009 as an assistant to the D-League. Young coached at that level until 2017, when he was head coach for the Delaware 87ers in Philadelphia from 2014 to 2017 before joining the 76ers staff.
The Bucks and Raptors have released Mike Budenholzer and Nick Nurse, respectively, and put their two recent championship-winning head coaches on the market.
Williams is also reportedly expected to be a target for the Bucks.
