Mount Pleasant’s Broadway Theater will feature the musical talents of Izzy Joy and other local acts during her EP release concert.
Joy is a Mount Pleasant singer-songwriter who describes her musical style as pop/soul and R&B.
Joy said, “I’ve been inspired by singer-songwriters like Adele, Amy Winehouse, Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys.
Passionate about music all her life, she has been doing it professionally for about six months.
“I started playing the piano when I was very young (around three years old),” said Joy. “I’ve been writing music for as long as I can remember. I became seriously interested in songwriting at age 10 after my parents gave me a diary. I’ve always been there I started writing songs and that brought me to this point.
My piano teacher, Mrs Lindahl, supported me on a technical level. My family has always enjoyed listening to all kinds of music and everyone including my parents, siblings and grandparents are very supportive of me pursuing music as a career. “
Joy began recording songs for her first EP in late 2020 during the pandemic. An EP (extended play) is a music recording that usually contains more tracks than a full music album, but fewer tracks than a full music album.
“Since releasing our first single, ‘Kid With Candy’ on March 17th, we’ve gained close to 500 listeners on Spotify every month,” said Joy. “It now has about 3,000 people listening from all over the world. ‘s second single has nearly 2,000 plays on Spotify. People who listen to me tell me that they really enjoy my music. I love this so thank you very much.
In December 2022, Joy entered a competition for original musicians held at Hunter’s Ale House and won first place in the competition.
“It was around January of this year that I started to take myself seriously as a professional singer/songwriter/performer,” says Joy. Prior to that, he was involved in a number of children’s musicals in Broadway theaters, from “Aladdin” to “Into the Woods” and many in between. Throughout elementary school, I also liked participating in choirs, bands, dance teams, and cheerleaders. “
The EP release concert at Broadway theaters is scheduled for May 19th at 7pm, with doors opening at 6:30pm. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at the Broadway theater website or at the door. During business hours at Partlo Property Management, 306 E. Broadway Suite #2.
“It’s going to be a chill event with all the artists involved sharing hours of live original music,” said Joy. “Concessions and musicians merchandise will be on sale. We will have a raffle with prizes such as Massage Central and Ponder.
Other live performances that can be seen at this concert event include Beatbox Jake, Jacob & Audri, Flanders Fields and Max Lagos.
“I met the host Beatbox Jake at an open mic night downstate and I was very intrigued by his beatboxing talent. He plays mean guitar,” said Joy. “Max Lagos and I hooked up at another open mic downstate where we enjoyed each other’s music. We loved the unique sound of a local duet named Jacob and Audrey, high school students at Sacred Heart Academy. Flanders. The Fields Band are also in the area, preparing for the release of their new EP a few weeks ago.”
Joy is currently working on recording music to be released mid-to-late summer and hopes to perform at more events.
“This summer we will be pursuing more open mic nights and gigs in and around Michigan,” said Joy. “I am also happy to perform at private events. When the time is right, I would love to jump into the big music scene like Nashville, but ultimately I want to go to Los Angeles. Because it’s a real music scene.”
