A Sydney real estate coach has revealed one question that job seekers accused of wasting time and ended interviews prematurely.
Tom Panos, founder and director of the Real Estate Gym, ended the interview after 12 minutes, calling the interviewee a “punk” who had to “get in line” and “stay in line.”
“Today I wasted 15 minutes interviewing an associate to join one of our real estate teams,” Panos said on his now viral TikTok.
“The guy had never worked in the real estate industry and was in his early 20s, but he asked me how much commission I was paid, how long I was going to be there, how many days off on weekdays, and so on. “Name three reasons why you should choose this employer over someone else.”
Panos replied, “I can’t think of any.”
“All Good Questions”
TikTok now has over 460,000 views and over 5,000 comments, and most of the commentators have jumped to the defense of the interviewees.
“I think he would make a good real estate agent if he had the guts to ask questions like that,” one person commented.
“Yeah, you did the right thing to get rid of him. He seems to have integrity!” said another.
“Those are all good questions and he clearly dodged a bullet,” a third party commented.
Other commentators noted that the interview was “two-way” and that the interviewee had every right to ask questions.
Very few actually agreed with Panos.
“Except for the last job, these are good things to know before signing on for a job.
It takes some experience and qualifications to ask such things,” said one.
“I’m sick of people like this. I recently had a girl come in for an interview who asked a similar question and turned her shirt inside out!” said another.
