Be Your Own Pet announces long-awaited new album mom, will be released on August 25th via Third Man Records. The album was written and recorded by founding members Jemina Perl-Abegg (vox), Jonas Stein (guitar), Nathan Vasquez (bass) and longtime drummer John Eatherly. .
“For better or worse, it hit us all that it wasn’t going to be easy on our own,” Stein said of the hiatus. “We all had some decent success, but nobody discovered the chemistry of ‘Be Your Own Pet’.” It was also the day that started writing the new album. And while Pearl had adapted lyrics to other people’s songs before, she brought her own song ideas to her mom’s writing room. “Mom is the controlling bitch and she’s controlling,” says Pearl. “It’s about getting yourself back.”
The band also shared lead single “Worship The Whip,” which plays like an overt, leather-clad dome evolution of “Whip It.” “‘Worship The Whip’ is about a right-wing authoritarian figure,” Pearl explains. “Aggressive and domineering to those who don’t think as they do, but inherently submissive to authority figures who take advantage and abuse them.” Directed by Jordan Williams, Ben Chappell Check out the song along with the music video below shot by

The band will embark on a ‘Teenage Heaven’ tour with a new LP this fall, bringing this new and energized energy to the stage. His month-long show begins October 18th in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and ends November 18th in Vancouver, British Columbia. We also make stops in Brooklyn, Chicago, Los Angeles and more.
