Spotify has announced a major overhaul of its African Heat playlist.
With over one million followers on the platform, the playlist has become one of the primary ways for African music to reach new audiences in the streaming era.
By helping listeners discover new and future African hits, they also connected fans of African music together by sharing their love for these iconic sounds.
With the growing global value and attention of African music, and the growing footprint of artists on stages and arenas around the world, African Heat is dedicated to highlighting the continent’s most significant songs and moments since the founding of African music. I have shed light on and verified some of the on sale.
Since 2018, African Heat has helped pioneer blockbusters such as: have understoodof “Love Nuwantiti”, Wizkidof ‘essence’, DBN Go Goof “Love and Loyalty”, among others. The playlist features music from across the continent and also provides a democratized platform for emerging talent to be heard around the world.
The new version of African Heat will focus on exposure and recognition within the African community of creators and listeners. The playlist’s rebrand conveys the movement of music on the African continent and beyond, drawing direction from public transport across Africa, especially iconic rides. Torot, garbage and matatu.
Further evoking images of African Heat as a vehicle, the playlist will sport a new visual identity with an updated version of the now-familiar cover that has hosted some of the continent’s biggest stars. The playlist name design features borders inspired by registration numbers, speedometer dials, and gradients that reflect heat in different shapes.
The campaign will feature opinions and conversations from some of Africa’s most exciting emerging and established artists, as well as live elements to bring the new African Heat to life and captivate listeners.
