Get the full interview below.
You are a localization producer for anonymous; code. Could you briefly describe your day-to-day work?
Localization Producer Yu Namba: “For this particular project, we specifically science adventure series since anonymous; code is the newest game in the series and has quite a few ties to past titles. From small cameo appearances here and there, for example, Stein’s Gatebe carried over to anonymous; code.
“So we wanted to keep the terminology and concept consistent throughout the series. That’s why we reached out to this gentleman named Andrew Hodgson. He also goes by the name of Steiner.” Stein’s GateHe teamed up with an editor to provide us with localized text. Then at Spike Chunsoft, me and the other editors went over the localized text and implemented it into the game itself, double-checking everything before we started recording English voices. ”
This is the first game. science adventure A series that has acquired an English voice actor. is that correct?
number: “yes. Stein’s Gate The anime had an English dub, but I believe it when it comes to the game. anonymous; code It will be the first app to feature English narration. ”
So why now? What was the process of choosing and working with the English voice actors?
number: “So I’m going to be completely honest with you. This was the first time I played science adventure From the beginning of the game to the end. I also had some knowledge of previous titles in the series, but never played or watched them all the way through. That being said, I really, really enjoyed myself anonymous; codeI didn’t know much about past titles in the series, but I really liked the story. And that’s exactly what we aim for our players. We both want to cater to our existing fans – hardcore fans. science adventure Grow your fans, expand your audience, and reach more people science adventure series through anonymous; codeWe also believe that adding English narration will make the title more accessible to general audiences.
“I know some people prefer to play the game in its most original and authentic form. In a visual novel, the text may be in English, but I prefer to have the game progressed with Japanese voices. But at the same time, I think a lot of people are a little bit scared of hearing foreign language voices, so I wanted to add an English narration to this particular title, which is a really good title as an entry point to the series. I thought.”
return to science adventure The series as a whole has a very large and dedicated fanbase around the world. You said newcomers have access because you are a newcomer yourself.so what do you think anonymous; code Will it appeal to both longtime fans of the series and newcomers alike? And where does it fit in the context of the series as a whole?
number: “So yeah, I can’t get too deep into the storyline because of spoilers. anonymous; code carry over certain concepts previously discussed science adventure title and extend it. core fans anonymous; code.
“For general audiences, it takes place in the future, but not too far in the future. There’s a lot of fictional technology introduced in this game, but it’s not too far from the present day.” It takes place in Tokyo, Japan, and there are also many real-world topics such as blockchain, virtual friends you can create, or AI friends you can create and customize yourself…all of which are I think it gives the viewers a sense of what they are experiencing.A story that is close to reality.I hope that will be the core of the story that ordinary viewers can relate to and enjoy.
” science adventure The motto of the series is 99% science, 1% fantasy. As for the science part, there are many things that have been said in past titles, and again many of them provide concrete grounds that add to the feeling of “yeah, we’re experiencing.” This story is real life.”
Speaking of some of the real-world concepts used to create the story of anonymous; code…. Can you talk about some of those concepts? The year 2036/2038, the messages of Arecibo, lived in simulations… Tell us how these concepts were put together to build the story. can you
number: “Have you seen the latest trailer yet?”
It’s not recent.
number: “Yeah. In that trailer they talked about this almost internet celebrity called Cicada 3301. This person or group of people is similar to the beings you see on 4chan… these cryptic messages and challenges. It dates back to 2010 or so when I started posting. anonymous; codethey return quite early in the story and start challenging all 4chaners and hackers again on these crazy quests. Even with that, there is a lot of technical talk.
“You mentioned the Arecibo message, but that would be a spoiler, so I won’t go into it. But the other thing is… the type of communication airliners use: modern and maybe ten years from now. What are the benefits? What are the dangers of it?
These are some of the things that are discussed in the story.
“You mentioned blockchain earlier, but everything about cryptocurrencies going up and down. How secure is it? How accessible is it? Something like that, whatever we hear on a regular basis, those topics are woven into the story.”

of science adventure The series is known for its complexity and complexity. How did you localize this? Were there any aspects of the story that you found particularly difficult to convey to an English audience?
number: “I think the two things we really wanted to be careful about were, first and foremost, our connections with other people. science adventure title. And the second is all facts, real-world facts referenced in-game.
“At first, we relied heavily on our translator, Andrew Hodgson, to make the piece as authentic as possible.
“For Part 2, Google is your friend. We did a lot of searching, including looking at Wikipedia and various articles to make sure what was being discussed in-game was accurately represented. Especially numbers, proper nouns, etc.”

Can you talk about how this game explores the boundaries between the digital and physical worlds?
number: “I can’t get too deep into it, because that would be a big spoiler. But that being said, the majority of the world’s population in the 2030s, where the game takes place, has an internet-connected ‘BMI’.” We have this interface called, perhaps the man-machine interface. You can actually use the media without the need for any external peripherals. ”
“Let’s say you’re chatting with someone on video. You can see that person’s face in your field of view without having to use glasses, goggles, etc. It’s basically completely connected to your brain and nervous system. For example, if you need to quickly search for the name of a particular idol group, you can think of it or use an external device such as a small keyboard to type it in. But when you type search, You will see the results in your vision immediately.”
“When it comes to AR, for example, there are still a lot of different AR games out there. please Pokémon GO You can put Pokemon in front of you without using your mobile phone. It’s the kind of technology that people use. anonymous; code very familiar with. That’s their daily routine. ”
Were there any significant changes that had to be made to the scripts during the localization process?
number: “No. I can strongly say that nothing was censored in terms of text or graphics in the US and European releases. anonymous; code”
What do players hope to get out of playing anonymous; codeand are there any specific moments or scenes in the game story that you’re particularly excited about for players to experience?
number: “It would be very spoilerish for me to say…but I really hope people watch the game from start to finish and cover all that we have to offer. The finale is very It’s exciting, it’s emotional, and I think it’s very relatable for everyone in this world.
Namba-san, thank you for your time!
