Baton Rouge – Angel Reese has become one of the faces of women’s basketball by winning a national title with LSU. Also, there’s been some discussion about her rubbish cravings talking to her opponents.
Reese’s post-championship press tour continued with an interview for GMA3 that aired on WBRZ on Friday morning. She talks about her celebrations and how her injuries nearly forced her to leave basketball behind.
“At some point, I didn’t want to play basketball anymore because it was mentally tough for me to have so many high expectations of myself,” Reese explained. “It’s hard to come back like the first one and have two surgeries when you’re feeling like you’re back, and eight months later you have to have another.”
When asked about his now-infamous trash talk during the U.S. Championships, especially his gestures to Iowa star Kaitlyn Clarke, Reese thought it was nothing personal and would create more entertainment for fans. He emphasized that
“I spoil the story. That’s who I am… I mean, I’m from Baltimore, and that’s kind of what we do,” Reese said. She’s a great player and she understands that. It’s never been personal to her or any of the guys we’ve done this year. It’s fun. That’s what makes the game grow.”
Reese also made a surprise guest visit during the interview. Jordan Hawkins, star of the UConn men’s basketball team and Reese’s cousin. Both Reese and Hawkins helped lead the team to a national title just days apart.
“Looking at everything he’s done, I’m happy for you,” Reese told Hawkins.
