Alaska Reid recently announced that her debut album Disenchanter will be co-produced with AG Cook and released July 14th via Luminelle Recordings. Reed shared her single “Back To This” from her album Reed last month and received rave reviews from Pitchfork, The Fader, Paste, Brooklyn Vegan, Consequence, Stereogum and more.
Today she shares another taste of her upcoming album with ‘She Wonders’ and announces the first round of a tour in support of Disenchanter. Find a show near you below and pick up your tickets on-site at 10am on Friday.
Produced and mixed by Cook, “She Wonders” conjures up vague memories of tours bygone for Reid. Over her sections of fuzzy guitars and dense rhythms, she sings about motel rooms, cracked leather sofas, and vague yearnings for something more.
“The touring artist’s personality is like a nesting doll. People reveal different aspects of themselves to fans, touring groups, other members of the band, etc.,” Reid said. say. “I grew up playing a lot of dive bars. It was just me and my guitar. I wanted the song to reflect how tired I am.”
Disenchanter finds himself straddling two hometowns: Park County, Montana, where Reid was born and raised, and his adopted home of Los Angeles. She still takes her time and takes inspiration from both of them to create her own brand, Mountain Pop.
Written while on tour (Reid has opened for Porches, Charli XCX, Magdalena Bay, Maya Hawke, Caroline Polachek, and more), Disenchanter draws heavily on the deep traditions of American country songwriting, the heavily influenced Northwest grunge. The gritty guitars and the unhurried Southern California ease of life, all complemented by Cooke’s ingenious production style.
