After TV interviews of gangster Bishnoi, Ludhiana Central Jail officials initiate major checking drive

After two interviews with gangster Lawrence Bishnoy made headlines on the prison’s private TV channel, Ludhiana Central Prison officials launched a massive check drive, recovering at least 16 cell phones from inmates. .

On Friday, Division 7 police filed three separate FIRs on the matter. Prison officials had formed separate teams for checks conducted on Thursdays and Fridays.

Kuldeep Singh, deputy prison superintendent, said that during the investigation, the team identified five inmates, including Baljit Ram, Pawan Kumar, Rana Randil Singh aka Rana, Jagjit Singh and Jaspreet Singh. Four mobile phones were recovered from the victim.

Another team, led by Assistant Superintendent Sarwan Singh, recovered seven mobile phones that had been left in a prison bathroom.

A third team, led by Assistant Superintendent Harvans Singh, recovered five mobile phones from five inmates, including Vijay Kumar, Jaswinder Singh, Paramjit Singh, Ajay Kumar and Herman.

Three separate cases under section 52A(1) of the Penal Code have been brought against the defendant in the 7th Police Station.

Inmates who have been brought to court for hearings in their respective cases have received mobile phones from family members and accomplices outside the courtroom, judicial authorities said. Sometimes an inmate’s aide throws a package from outside into the prison compound walls.
