(CNN) Actor Jonathan Majors, who recently starred in “Creed III” and “Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumanias,” was arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of a domestic dispute, New York police said.
The 33-year-old Majors was taken into custody after calling 911 from his apartment in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, according to a New York Police Department statement.
“The victim reported the assault to police,” the statement said. The 30-year-old woman “had minor injuries to her head and her neck,” police said.
The major faces charges of strangulation, assault and harassment, according to the New York Police Department.
Majors’ attorney, Priya Chaudhry, said the actor was “completely innocent” and “probably was the victim of an altercation with a woman he knew.”
“We are rapidly gathering evidence and presenting it to the District Attorney in the hope that all charges will be dropped imminently,” Chowdhury said in a statement Sunday.
The evidence included two written statements by the woman withdrawing her allegations, video footage from the vehicle in which the incident allegedly took place, and testimony from the driver and other witnesses, the lawyers argued.
“All the evidence proves that Mr. Majors is completely innocent and did not commit any assault on her,” Chaudhry said.
Majors is no longer in police custody, according to the NYPD Saturday night.
In response to the allegations, the U.S. Army said in a statement it was “deeply concerned” and announced that it would be withdrawing two recently released recruitment ads featuring the major.
“While Mr. Majors is innocent until proven guilty, out of caution, the ad must be removed until an investigation into these allegations is completed,” said a statement from the Army’s Office of Corporate Marketing.
