KNEADED PAINS label bosses Dense & Pika are one of the most exciting DJ and production duos in British electronic music.
Heading into the spring with a prolific release schedule for both Kneaded Pains and their own work, the latest music from Alex Jones and Chris Spero aka Dense & Pika is Uruguayan DJ/producer Diego Infanzon’s Thank You For new release. It’s a remix. My Children is an excerpt from the Ohh My Music release coming out next week from Berlin’s techno-her queen, Anja Schneider’s Sous Music imprint.
To celebrate the release of our new remix next week, we reached out to Dense & Pika this week to put together a playlist that’s really aimed at the dancefloor. Hear and read what they had to say about their music of choice below.
Mitsupika – Bugz (Armada Music)
Really happy with how this turned out. Big, crunchy drums with raw Fox and great vocals on top. We have played it many times and it completely destroyed the dance floor.
Dence & Pika vs Adam Beyer – Future
A big rave banger with Mr. Beyer a few years ago. It still sounds relevant today, but it needs to be pitched up a bit. It was a lot of fun working with him and taking advantage of all his experience.
Dense & Pika – Butt Plug (Dense & Pika White 002)
This is one of the first records in our White Series circa 2012. Completely different from everything else I’ve done so far, chewy off-kilter drums his patterns are great.
Mattias Fridell & Alexander Johansson – Geometric Structures (Blueprint Records)
As usual, James Ruskin’s mighty Blueprint label is back with another great EP. I’ve been playing all the tracks here lately. Big fan of both of these producers. Surprisingly groovy purist techno. Essential record!
Dence & Pika – In My Heart (Uncaged)
This was made very quickly last summer, mostly on my laptop. We tested different versions of it and it really struck a chord with us.It’s a record you can play anytime in your house or techno set. DJs such as Richie Hawtin, Marco Faraone, Nicole Moudaber, Ida Engberg, and Chris Liebing have a big following.
Dense & Pika – Colt (Hot Flash)
This was a big hit for us in 2013 and is still making many rounds. We are about to release a lot of new remixes.
Tom Healy – Shanti (SYXT)
This is the kind of techno that I find really exciting at the moment. Soulful, powerful, not too hard. His productions are fantastic and his tracks always leave a great impression on the dance floor.
Rove Ranger – Feed the Children (N&N)
Been playing this load lately. It has an amazing pace without sounding thumping. Pure techno at its best. Great percussion with fat bass and mega-sexy swing.
Andy Stott – The New Romantic
Moving into a little more electronic realm. Andy Stott hails from Manchester and is a master of his techno/electronica with his highly textured slow motion. This track is very rare and, like most of his Andy Stotts music, difficult to classify. The melody is steeped in 80s nostalgia, featuring great vocals and his beautifully distorted 808 drums. Perfect for any mood and time of day. All his albums are great, but this is better than any other I own in the genre. Simply great music – perfectly executed.
Dence & Pika vs Will Clark – Touch (Kneaded Pains)
A recent collaboration with Will Clark. After a lot of back and forth, I finally got my diaries in order and went into the studio together.then things came
together very quickly. Tech house with killer vocals that makes the big room throb. I’ve been hearing this everywhere for the past few months.
