Spotify has had a disagreement with Apple for some time now. The company is critical of Apple’s approach to his apps. Spotify also maintains public tabs (opens in new tab) Of all Apple’s decisions that have been unfair to the company. Apple even launched his HomePod without Spotify support.
Apple has since added support for Spotify on the HomePod, but the app still doesn’t work. That’s because Spotify hasn’t added support for his HomePod yet, and according to the company’s statement to Mark Gurman, has no plans to add it any time soon.in the latest Power On newsletter (opens in new tab)Garman also revealed that Spotify plans to eventually add support for AirPlay 2.
Spotify isn’t too keen on supporting the Apple ecosystem
Spotify doesn’t seem to care about HomePod support, citing low user interest. Gurman reports: There are comments on Reddit, with 138 tweets about the issue. But I don’t think that hits the mark (plus, there’s a Spotify forum complaint about HomePod support, with 5,800 likes).”
Given that Spotify is one of the most popular apps on the iPhone, it seems a mistake to rule out HomePod support. It doesn’t appear to be in any rush to support the new AirPlay 2, and although the timeline is very vague, it does promise support.
In a statement, Spotify said, “Spotify remains committed to supporting AirPlay 2 at some point in the future. I can’t say for sure if it will be.”
So it doesn’t look like Spotify is coming to the HomePod anytime soon, but you can still enjoy it with the best Bluetooth speakers or switch to Apple Music.
