On digital streaming platform Spotify, their RapCaviar playlist has always been the most sought after listener to keep up with the latest hip-hop releases. But now, RapCaviar has partnered with Hulu to show fans what’s going on with the genre’s newest star.
Trailer of Hulu’s latest documentary series RapCaviar Presents Removed on Wednesday (March 22nd). The six-episode show will release on Hulu on March 30, and will feature six different directors.
Throughout the trailer, we see testimonials from superstar rappers like Tyler, The Creator, Roddy Ricch, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, and Post Malone talking about the intense scrutiny they face in the hip-hop industry. Additionally, the show will include footage and interviews with more artists including Koi Leray, Polo G, City Girls, Killer Mike, Bobby Shmurda, Vince Staples, Fibio Fallin, Pharrell Williams and more. In a statement accompanying the release of the trailer, Carl Cherry, the show’s executive producer and Spotify’s creative director and head of urban music, gave insight into what viewers can expect. “We are really proud of this documentary series. As a storytelling medium rooted in the ethos of traditional journalism, most of the episodes explore the artist alongside topics related to society and hip-hop culture in general. “We are documenting the journey,” Cherry said. It examines trauma, the criminalization of hip-hop, and more.”
In the trailer, quotes from Tyler, The Creator, Roddy Ricch, and Polo G are particularly resonating. “The way society is is a certain way you should be, they tell you, it’s not for me,” Tyler, The Creator said of facing public opinion.
Rich also talked about what rappers today have to endure compared to when the genre was younger. “They wouldn’t have survived in this era.”
“I don’t care how cold-blooded you think you are as a killer. Everyone has feelings and emotions,” Polo G said. “We are all still human. We are all human.”
Ultimately, RapCaviar Presents aims to educate fans about the damage criticism and hate can cause. Just a week after its release, Hulu seems to be doing great things with its upcoming series.
