Before he was producing hit records or launching his own label, MC David J was just a kid watching his father breakdance to Melle Mel and Run DMC. That early exposure to Hip Hop culture would shape the foundation of his life’s work.
Now based in Atlanta, David has grown into a multidimensional artist—an emcee, producer, and entrepreneur—all driven by one core mission: to make music with purpose. “The biggest challenge in this industry is staying true to yourself,” he says. “There’s a lot of pressure to follow trends, but I decided early on that I’d build my own lane instead.”
That decision led him to create CoCalm Entertainment, his independent label dedicated to creative freedom and uplifting other artists. Through CoCalm, David has released a series of projects that reflect both his lyrical skill and his production expertise—including his latest album, NEVER FORGET! and motivational single FLEXECUTION!
David’s music blends classic Hip Hop sensibilities with a modern edge. Influenced by legends like Slick Rick, The Roots, and Dr. Dre, he focuses on crafting songs that tell stories and connect emotionally. His creative process is fully hands-on—from building the beat to laying the vocals—resulting in work that is unmistakably his.
Live performance is also a vital part of his artistry. “I feed off the energy of the crowd,” he says. “Whether it’s five people or five hundred, I give them everything I’ve got.”
