The Foo Fighters have announced their first major Australian stadium tour since the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins.
After months of speculation as to who would succeed the late Taylor Hawkins, the 50-year-old musician confirmed at the Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concert livestream event on Sunday. was introduced as part of a rock group. After Freese’s live debut, a Foo Fighters representative also confirmed the news by simply writing on Twitter, “Welcome to @foofighters Josh Freese.” Neither the drummer nor frontman Dave Grohl have commented on the news. Following the tragic death of drummer Hawkins last March at the age of 50, the band recently resumed touring live.
Hawkins died later that night in a hotel room in Bogota, Colombia, where he was scheduled to perform with the Foo Fighters. In a wave of tributes to the much-loved Hawkins, the Foo Fighters canceled all planned tour dates, waking up in September to perform two tribute concerts.

In a video posted on the band’s official website on May 21, Foo Fighters, along with frontmen Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smir, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee, are veteran drummers. has announced that longtime friend Josh Freeze will be joining the tour line-up.
Over the course of his career, Freese has played drums for bands such as Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, Paramore, The Offspring and Weezer.
Tickets for the Foo Fighters Australia and New Zealand tour go on sale Thursday, June 15th at frontiertouring.com/foofighters. Queensland punk trio The Chats will support the band with shows in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane, with other support acts such as Body Type and Hot Milk joining them during the tour.
