American garage punk rockers Be Your Own Pet will release their first reunion album in 2021. momwill be released on August 25th via Third Man Records.
The band formed in 2004 and released their self-titled debut album two years later. Be Your Own Pet toured successfully, supporting artists such as Sonic Youth and Arctic Monkeys. However, after releasing their second album, awkwardIn 2008, the band decided to disband.
In a statement on their website, they wrote, “Dear fans, we are sad to share the news that our upcoming show in the UK will be our last as a band. Thank you for all your love and support over the last few years. It’s been a lot of fun, but it’s time for the four of us to go our separate ways.”
But since reuniting in 2021, they shared a single, “Hand Grenade,” released in March 2023, much to the delight of old fans. Now, they’ve released another song, “Worship the Whip,” along with a music video directed by Jordan Williams.
Speaking about the hiatus, guitarist Jonas Stein revealed: We were all reasonably successful, but no one discovered the “Be Your Own Pet” chemistry. “
Teasing the new album, vocalist Jemina Pearl-Abegg explained:mom A controlling bitch, a controlling bitch. It’s about getting yourself back. She added, “‘Worship the Whip’ is about a right-wing, authoritarian figure. Aggressive and domineering to those who don’t think like her, but to authority figures who use and abuse her.” They are essentially obedient.”
