Louise Post may be best known for co-fronting 90s alternative rock icon Veruca Salt, but she’s now going solo. sleepwalker, Debut album under her own name.
After Veruca Salt released their comeback album in 2015 Ghost Note, Post began writing music as usual. But the songs that started flowing out of her, she says, were “almost like writing them ourselves,” but to her, they were far more personal than anything she’d made with the band up until that point. It felt like something.
“I have always identified myself as a sleepwalker,” Post said in a statement about the album’s title. “When I was a child, I used to sleep and walk around the house, and I also took walks on the street. I think it was me who was trying to process things, and as far as I know, I stopped sleepwalking after my divorce when I was eight, but sleepwalking has always been a part of my mind. I feel like I’m protecting a little girl who is feeling sad.”
Influenced by her own personal music heroes and new favorites found through her daughter (Billy Eilish). sleepwalker It’s a succession of Post’s heavy hooks and witty lyrics. Power-pop ripper “Guilty” has its usual Veruca Salt exuberance, but it feels more like a way of pandering to longtime fans than a natural progression of 2020s post songwriting. do not have.
