Hungerford-based singer-songwriter Liam Merrigan’s new album is out ahead of Home Farm Festival in Somerset and local shows in the West Berkshire region.
Liam has performed with popular local venues, Roadhouse, and has played keyboards with Brian Eno, Cozy Powell, Peter Green, James C. Johnson, and Thin Lizzy guitarist Gary Gary. Moore’s son Jack Moore makes a guest appearance. Described as “folky blues-rock,” I personally feel that the song leans heavily toward Americana, and at times has more nuances than Springsteen. That said, there are also hints of British legends like The Kinks and Roy Harper. Lyrically, this album is full of sharp observation and wit.
Of the seven original songs here, I especially liked Journey’s End and Old Man’s Words. This Human Guise, on the other hand, comes in two forms. One is likely to be performed live locally, and the other features a guest appearance by Jack Moore, accompanied by his wailing guitar. A rockier dimension to the track.

As for the engineering mix, the drums sometimes felt too prominent, but Liam’s comments that he put his heart and soul into this project are very clear, and he produced an interesting album worth checking out here.
3 years production period
“I put my heart and soul into making this record and brought everyone together,” says Liam. Liam Merrigan’s “Folky Blues Rock” and “Synthetic Orchid,” which is out now, took three years to make, writes arts editor Trish Lee.
Liam Merrigan’s album, The Synthetic Orchid, is currently live and is going well. Jack Moore has shared the song on his Facebook, on Kennett Radio, Radio Nine Springs in Somerset, Bandana Blues Podcast in the US, Banks FM in Australia and Glastonbury Radio, just to name a few. It airs on The Calling Podcast.
And, following the response to this song with Jack Moore, they will be working on a full-length album together in the coming months.

Liam, 35, has been a songwriter for almost 20 years, having moved from Somerset to Hungerford at the age of 14.
After leaving the metal band Dead Man’s Lane in 2012/13 and leaving the band, he embarked on a solo career and was a semi-finalist in the Listen Up Britain Song Writing Contest in 2017, performing in London. We were able to.
The Liam Merrigan Band is best described as a folk-rock band with an indie twist to the blues. You can see them at the band’s showcase at the Railway Tavern on September 9th. “I am truly proud to be part of the line-up for this incredible event and was able to perform on the Dutch Barn Stage at 12:30pm on June 10th,” said Liam.

“Unfortunately we have had to turn down the Pilton stage for this year’s Bath and West show, but hopefully we will be booked again next year.”
Sessions for the album began just before the coronavirus hit. “The process was slow because of the process and minor health issues that I’ve fortunately made a full recovery with,” Liam explains.
“This album was three years in the making, and I believe it follows on from our debut album Broke Beyond Tomorrow released in 2015 and our EP Evermore released in 2020.”

“It’s hard to pick a favorite song, but I think ‘This Human Guise’ is my best work to date. But every song means something to me.
“‘Old Man’s Words’ was written to a dear friend who passed away, and is based on nightly blurry-eyed chatter in the local pub.”
