Janelle Monae is touring ‘The Age of Pleasure’.
In the North American tour poster for Monáe’s fourth studio album, they’re standing topless in straw hats, long braids covering their chests, and cheeky hands tucked into black track pants.
This latest tour comes five years after Monae toured for 2018’s Dirty Computer. The performer stepped up the sensuality with a brand new journey through 26 cities in the US and Canada from August 30th to October 18th.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the “Pink” singer opened up about how overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic has boosted her appreciation for her community.This theme was the inspiration for The Age of Pleasure, which is set to release on June 9. (6/9 if mean).
“[I]It’s great that it’s titled “The Age of Pleasure.” Because it’s actually re-centered me. It’s not about the album anymore. I changed my whole lifestyle,” Monae told Rolling Stone.
Fans have recently taken notice that Monae’s skimpy look is a departure from her previous buttoned-up style. But Monae said frankly they found it liberating.
“I’m much happier when my boobs are out and I can run around freely,” she says.
Prior to the album’s release, Monae debuted a single entitled “Lipstick Lover” on May 11. The single was accompanied by racy videos featuring bare butts and breasts, sex toys and things like orgies. The video caused a stir, and Monae released a “clean” version of the video on Tuesday. The original is He has over 1.7 million views on YouTube.
“After many back-and-forth and private court dates, I have decided against my will to release the sinful ‘lipstick lover’ ‘beautiful virgin’!” The queer actor tweeted. “I manually added another 100 pixels. So don’t sneak a look at the original.” The original video is still on her YouTube channel.
