It worked better than James expected.
“It’s weird, but I really like it,” he said. “We couldn’t hide behind a solo anymore, so we had to write better songs. We weren’t trying to be a rock thing. We weren’t going to be a rock duo. We weren’t. I still do traditional R&B music, but it’s just a duo format, and I also do traditional blues like the Carter Vintage Sessions.”
surprise single
James refers to his latest digital single, ‘This Is The Last Time’, recorded live at Nashville’s Carter Vintage Guitars. It was released on February 17th.
“It’s really weird because it was never meant to be released on Spotify or anything like that,” James said. “Carter Vintage wanted us to do some guitar demos, and they put the video up on YouTube and Instagram. They do a really great job, I posted a video of myself on social media and they posted it as well.”
The clip went viral and James received requests for a proper streaming release.
“I had to go to YouTube or Instagram to hear the songs,” he said. “I couldn’t just stream it, put my phone down, and listen to it as I went about my day. Due to so many requests, I asked Carter Vintage to send me just the audio WAV file of the video.” We hadn’t mastered it, and it was like, ‘Okay, let’s put that out there for people who want to hear it.’ It was new to put out. It received over 20,000 views within about two weeks. It was just audio from a video, but people liked it. ”

Now we don’t want to put out our next record as a self-release again, so the record We’re looking for labels, and we’re pitching to a few different labels to see who’s interested.”
