This bug was first discovered in late 2022.
Spotify has yet to release a full fix, and the problem has affected more devices.
The reported behavior is exactly the same for all users. I’m stuck on his Spotify logo on my iPhone and can’t launch the app anymore.
Most users claim that Spotify usually crashes after a few minutes and the interface doesn’t load no matter how long the app is running.
The parent company acknowledged the bug 3 weeks ago, but has yet to fix it to make it work for all users. Oddly enough, some users claim that installing the latest her Spotify update fixes the app. Others continue to report the same broken behavior on the latest iPhones.
At the time of writing, the latest iOS version is 16.4, while the latest Spotify release is 8.8.22. This Spotify update shipped on his March 29th, but there is no changelog. So I’m not sure if it’s meant to solve the bug.
In the meantime, it’s not hard to see why this is such a frustrating problem. Failing to load Spotify breaks the app on both iPhone and CarPlay. Therefore, you cannot listen to music or podcasts while driving. Some users immediately decided to subscribe to another music streaming service, especially since the problem has persisted for months.
Only the iOS version of Spotify seems to be affected. I’ve never seen an app load error reported in the Android world. I can confirm that everything is working fine on my Google device. However, Spotify loads correctly on my iPhone 14 Pro as well, so it’s not clear who or why this glitch affects them.
For now, Spotify says they are still working on fixing the bug. In most cases, the latest app updates brought additional optimizations that partially resolved loading errors. This is why users are reporting mixed results.
If you’re currently running an older version of Spotify that works fine, we recommend delaying updating to the latest build.
