Police said none of the injuries were life-threatening.
At least nine teenagers were injured in a shooting at a post-prom party in Texas, officials said. None of the victim’s injuries are considered life-threatening.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight Sunday at a home on County Route 263, just north of Jasper, Texas, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
“This investigation is ongoing and interested persons are being questioned,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement on Sunday.
Police said there were about 250 people at the party when the shooting took place.
Most of the victims were taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital and some were transferred to Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, Texas, for further treatment, officials said.
In a statement, the Jasper School District said it was “first to say our prayers are with those injured early Sunday morning in the shooting north of town,” according to ABC News Texas affiliate KMBT. “Jasper ISD is working with law enforcement in any way we can to support investigations to bring these perpetrators to justice.”
The school district added, “More law enforcement will be deployed this week to ensure the safety of our students, and counselors will be available for students who need assistance.”
A second shooting occurred within Jasper city limits, police said on Sunday. The agency said there may be a connection between the two shootings, but an investigation is ongoing.
A motive for the shooting has not been determined, police said. For more information, please contact the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
