At approximately 12:40 p.m. Friday, two people were killed when a helicopter crashed in Riverside County at the foot of Lakeview Hills.
According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the “aircraft emergency” call occurred near Chastity Road and Pulsarview Road, about 10 miles northwest of Hemet Ryan Airport.
The sheriff’s STAR-9 helicopter crew was the first to arrive at the crash site, and the fire department’s assistance was requested.
Firefighters were hiking toward the crash site as of 1:25 p.m. Friday.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
The pilot’s family said they volunteered their time and the helicopter to fly the organ for the nonprofit.
Family members said the pilot had been flying for 25 years. He hadn’t flown the organ just before the crash.
His family said he was also a pilot.
