10. Cheap Trick ~Heaven Tonight & Dream Police~
While they may seem like mundane dad rock now, Cheap Trick was quite the revolutionary force in the late 1970s.
They were early pioneers of a genre known as “power pop,” which essentially meant taking the songwriting conventions of the mid-’60s and injecting them with more noise. .
After a fairly solid start with their first two albums, Cheap Trick hit big with 1978’s Heaven Tonight. The record combined the darker tone of his debut release with the brighter sound of his predecessor to produce the best of both worlds.
Or worse, being that pessimistic.
In late ’78, the band released a live album called “Cheap Trick” at the Budokan. The huge success of this record paved the way for their most successful release of all time, 1979’s Dream His Police.
With sales of over one million copies in the US thanks to songs like Voices and Way of the World, Dream Police continued the group’s ascent to pop-rock’s pinnacle and did so in style.
