One person was killed and two others injured in a shooting in a busy Miami Beach neighborhood during Spring Break, police said.
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — One person was killed, another injured and dozens rushed to safety in a shooting in a busy Miami Beach neighborhood during spring break, police said.
Two men were shot Friday night and one was detained at the scene, Miami Beach police tweeted. It was not clear if the person being detained was the shooter. Police also said three guns had been recovered.
The shooting occurred on South Beach’s Ocean Drive, where hundreds of people gathered to celebrate spring break. One of his victims died in hospital and the second was in critical condition, police said. Their identities were not immediately revealed.
Dozens of people rushed to escape the shooting, officials said. Several blocks in the area were cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape.
No other information was immediately available.
The shooting is the second in years during spring break in South Beach. Last year, the city imposed a midnight curfew, also following his two shootings on Ocean Drive.
The year before, after nearly 1,000 arrests and the confiscation of dozens of guns during a tumultuous spring break, Miami Beach officials took steps to calm the situation.
